I were so glad to hear above information just now. For this morning, my wife and I had heard our second child Jeff to give a sincere prayer and thanks to Heavenly Father for the family, especially for my first day to the new job. The past 4 month-long jobless life has really taught us all a lot.

I am happy to view this video. When my wife and I were baptized 12 years ago, a lot of church members sang the song to us. I ever searched its related information on internet, but very few was found. The Christmas 4 years ago few junior high school students sang the song to us family again. I recorded it. :-)

What I wanna talk some more is about faith here. But what is faith by your opinion?

Actually it is hard to define it. Sometimes I still doubt on it.

But little by little, I know faith is just as you know that every day the sun will arise. Or you know that you will have a happy life finally. So sure things with simple faith on it.

"There can be miracle when you have faith."

Yes, it is true that faith can also make things different.

Faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if you have faith, you hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

Building faith on God and on each other may bring life happiness.

*AM9:00 - go to the house in sunflower community. --- balustrade and backyard wall are ready.

* AM9:40 - to find a Secret BASE II on south shore area of the creek tou-qian-xi

* AM10:30 - a tutorial beginning to Mr. Xie Guo Zhong at the downtown of Hsin Chu City with missionary. His age is close to my father.

* AM11:30 - buy 3 bags of Potato Crisp and go visit Bro. Xie Shang Qing(He is 81 years old already) but not meet after I called his name loudly outside his house for sevral times.

* PM1:30 - attend the Exhibition of Overseas Studying held in NCTU. Listening to the speech from professors who gave the talks on their studying experience in Japan. The professor quote it as his ending: "If you are lucky enough to have lived in Paris as a young man, then wherever you go for the rest of your life, it stays with you, for Paris is a Moveable Feast " --- Ernest Hemingway, Moveable Feast, 1964.

* PM2:00 - attend the Art Gallery of NCTU that is just beside the Exhibition.

* PM2: 30 - together with my family members in the Exhibition. A staff there loves our kids so much, she smiled and played with them.

* PM3:00 - a brief introduction of studying in the Netherlands. The speaker is so conversational and with a good sense of humor. Listening to his speech made us happy.

* PM4:30 - walk home

* PM7:20 - walk to NCTU again with wife and two little kids for a speech by Ah Ken in the main auditorium. Ah Ken talked on his experience of studying in Vancouver and New York. Have you ever heard the famous young guy Ah Ken before? I just knew him tens of minutes before his speech. However, I think the young actor's talk is interesting.

12/10 (Sun. )

*AM9:40 - go with family members to visit Bro. Xie Shang Qing but not meet again.

* AM10:20 - go with family members to Secret BASE II for the first time. We tent there, play there and see the the high speed trains operate come-and-go trially on the nearby railway bridge for the purpose of the formal operation next month. On the opposite shore of the creek, several teams of basketball games were held there. Children were rather happy to stay and play in the tent while the strong winter wind from the north almost blows our tent down.

* AM11:50 - go to the house which is under construction in the new sunflower community. I didn't get off car this time.

* AM12:10 - back to home and have the fastest clothing and lunch with the 3 elder kids while the youngest one has fallen asleep in his baby car seat. Wife takes care of him and stays with him in the car.

* AM12:50 - driving out again for the church meeting. Don't forget that I need to pick up a church member at his home while I promised him one day before when he called to ask me. After arriving there at PM1:10, I called him and knocked the door from outside. His grandmother came out and told me that he has asked his grandfather take him to the church and his grandfather come back already.

* PM14:05 - wife gave a speech and testimony on Tithing at the church sacrament meeting. It's good to hear it from her. She mentioned that we visited the 3 chapels in Malaysia one year ago and how I taught children about Tithing.

* PM17:00 - wife allowed our 3 elder kids to go home earlier by hitching a ride from a church member for they are so eager to watch evening cartoon at home after the church meetings, while I have another meeting then and wife would like to watch the special annual Christmas fireside meeting which is sattlite-broadcasted from Utah and held at PM18:00. I went home earlier that day because that I feel not at ease about the 3 kids at home alone without parents.

* PM21:00 - the only daugther asked me to sleep with her once more. ....

Christmas coming !

Family Home Evening yesterday(2006-11-27) is really a good one. Sons prepared all the stuff needed for it. Jeff was appointed by me to host it since I was tired afer work. He is only 7 now and he leaded us to sing together and bear testimony to each other. It is the first time I ask my child to host for parents. It seems that way make children more reverent in the evening home meeting. We like it.

After that, Chad suggested to set up the Christmas tree and decorate it. Soon every child was busy and happy for it. The Christmas is coming down to this house earlier this year.

What is the blessing of being a father?

To see children growing up to do what we did and to enjoy it will be the blessings! Wish every friend will have a warm, peaceful and joyful December.

Riding bicycle in the rain

Since president of the company advocated in May the bicycle-riding as a commuting tool by giving free movie ticket as a monthly reward, I have ridden more than 800 km in total during the past 3 months and I got 3 tickets. :-) But this morning it's the first time for me to ride in a heavy rain.

When I prepared to leave home this morning, the western sky become so dark. I went back home and put on my new bought rain coat, pants and shoes that specially designed for bike rider. I also turned on the lights on my bike. Then I chose a small country road to go instead, there was the wide green cultivated land around me and almost no other vehicles on it. It's a special experience that I haven't had since my youth at hometown, for I could clearly hear the rain dropping on my rain coat and the thunder roaring nearby without the motor noise. And I could feel the pain when it drop onto my face and hand. The only thing that made me fear for is the frequent lightning. It seemed to be happened just in front of my eyes. Fortunately I am safe finally. :-)

This experience made me feel that I was so much close to the nature. Yes, nature. That is such a wonderful blessing that God give it to us freely.

Currently I have 3 sisters on airplanes. Wish them have a peace journey!

雪玲 & 雪琴 are on their way to back to Taiwan from Paraguay.

While Gindah is on her GCX exchange to UK.

I'll pick up my sisters at CKS airport this evening with my youngest sister.

Then, we'll have a whole family photography activity on Sunday afternoon.

My father and Grandmother have come to my home for this yesterday when we had a church athletic game then, while my mother and the family of my youngest sister will come this morning.

P/S 1: At about AM8:00 10/11, Malaysian Pen Pal Tang called in and told Binne that her mother and she will have a tour in Taiwan during 10/24~10/30. After that, they will have a 4 days duration to prolong their stay until 11/3 and they plan to visit us! We hope to give them a warm greeting during the period. May God bless!

P/S 2: I saw my 2 sisters yesterday night. The bother and 3 sisters first meet each other at airport. We talked a lot my the way home. The night there were 16 family members stayed at my home. Hope the photography activity this afternoon will bring us all peace and happiness. :-)

P/S 3: This is a special birthday for my 40! No cake, no song, but a lot of interesting experience and amazing news.

Beautiful Saturday

Last Friday night, my youngest sister come to our home with her husband and 2 sons. Her husband had a conference for his thesis at Taipei. So we take care of their 2 sons. How was it then? We went to Taipei as well, but differenet place. Binne and I took total 7 kids in our "big" car. We went to church Temple in the morning, and then to a Mall in the afternoon. I have taken some pictures. It seems we are starnge to take 7 kids with us for shopping in the Mall . Kids go to merry go round, then we all go on a Ferris Wheel, then to play electronic games and watch a funny magic show. In the evening we bought some food and ate our dinner on the road side and below the wheel. When back to Hsin Chu, we picked a church sister with her Mom to stay at our house for the night. They came from Kaoshiung and we met earlier at Taipei temple. It is a beautiful Saturday for us.

Yesterday afternoon I went with Chad to watch a movie in Viewshow. It's a new animation film from Disneyland. WALL E. At the beginning, I suggested Mummy. But Chad think it is so terrible, we changed finally. It's my first time to go to a commercial theater with my kid. It's not bad. I use the tickets I won from company by riding bicycle in last 2 months. :)

It talked about the love of robot, and the future world with advance technology and huge garbage on earth. WALL E is a robot who recycles the garbage on earth. There are no plants on earth then (AC 2700). The earth is full with garbage, so people at the time live at space station. They don't need to work and don't even to walk, different functions of robot will take care all for them. So that people all become fat, like infant. :D

Just as our days now, the earth is coming worse. We can often think of the similar things. A lot of not well-designed houses were built continuously everywhere. It occupies a lot of fine area and obstructs the original views. Although it seems to bring prosperous and show richness. But the quality of life seems not be increased a lot. It become disorderly, crowder and noisier. So the construction is not always to bring happiness to life, but sometimes garbage maybe. :)

Yes, garbage. How many tons of garbage that people make everyday?

You make choices every day and almost every hour that keep you walking in the light or moving away toward darkness.

The fact that you are listening now is evidence that God recognizes your great importance and that you have chosen to walk in the light He offers you. Such choices are not always easy to see clearly. You make choices every day and almost every hour that keep you walking in the light or moving away toward darkness. Some of the most important choices are about what you set your heart upon.

There are so many things you may consider desirable. For instance, all of us want, to some degree, the approval of other people. All of us feel a need for friends. All of us are searching for some evidence that we are persons of worth. We make choices based on those desires. Some might lead us away from the light God offers us as a guide. Some may brighten that light by which we can find our way.

As I look back, I realize that I was unaware of the importance of some of those desires and choices. I wanted to be selected for athletic teams. I wanted to do well in school. I wanted to find good and true friends. And when I made the choices that came from those desires, more than I realized, I was either moving away from the light or toward it.

Some of my achievements and some of my friends were major factors in my sensing light. Others, more than I knew at the time, were edging me away from the light. In important and long-lasting ways, choices I made to satisfy my desires for companionship and a sense of recognition were taking me either toward or away from the light to guide my path.

Last Sunday(2008-8-17), the theme of speech in the sacrement meeting was given as "Walk in the Light". The 3 invited speakers quoted a lot of scriptures. I liked them and tried to record them. After the meeting, I also asked the speaker on the scriptures they shared. Here they are:

12 ¶ Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the ^alight of the world: he that followeth me shall not ^bwalk in ^cdarkness, but shall have the light of life.

Hi Brother Xie,

It has been a while since I wrote you last. How are things going? That is so awesome to hear you have adopted a child. Congratulations and good for you. I hope you are enjoying Chu Tong. Right now I am working at a pain care center with their operating room crew and I will be going back to school in the Fall at UVU. Life is so wonderful. I attached a picture of my family. We were all together on Sunday. My brother blessed his baby, so we took a picture at the house after. I think you and your family are so awesome. You guys are solid, and I love you all. I hope you have a great day. Stay in touch.

Faith

Yesterday(2008-7-28 Mon.) was a typhoon holiday for all Taiwanese. I spent almost all day long on cleaning the house. Since about AM10:00 until PM7:00 by a central vacuum cleaner and a mop. It made me sweat a lot, just as doing acute exercise. It made me tired but feel better finally. Yes, It's comfortable now.

I asked my kids to have slippers on their feet all the time. It's so difficult to teach them that. They always forget it. I have taught them more than 10 times since last move 1 year ago. It made me easily anger on them. We need to learn to be better parent.

In the evening, we together to hold our regularly weekly family home evening. Diana chose a song in the children songbook as the opening theme. It is the page no. 50 "Faith" in the Chinese version songbook. Andrew prepared for every family member a songbook and helped open to the page. I asked Jeff to lead the song and conduct it. Then, Diana gave an opening prayer before the family meeting.

In the meeting, we learned about the Moses' Ten Commandments. Binne taught Jeff and Diana to recite it. They really did it good. I felt that I was also taught by their discussion. As for me, I remind them again about how important it is to have their slippers on feet always. After it, every kids enjoyed the chocolate I bought from COSTCO last week.

We like the song, finally we sang the same song again and the 3- year-old Andrew gave a close prayer under the guidance of his brother Jeff.

"Faith" is a song our family ever learned several years ago. I like its versions in different languages. Here they are. Enjoy them with us !!

Marriage in the Temple

Family tour by THSR

A short family tour by THSR(Taiwan high speed rail) last week was proposed and led by my wife Binne during my two sons' summer vacation. As I was still work in the office I couldn't go with them. She took our 5 kids with her younger sister to "experience" it, for our kids still not have got the chance to go by it yet. Although we can see the trains come and go forth every day, as our community was just about 500 meters away from the railway.

Our kids liked it since it was still under construction, they used to ask their mother to take them to the THSR Exploration Museum, which was opened since 2004-8-15 but closed now. The family went there for countless times, beacsue it is not far away from where their aunt lives.

Taiwan became a member of the countries with high speed railway since it started to operate on last January(2007). Over 1 years, THSR has become a popular commute and transportation tool. People used to use it in spite of its expensive cost which is close to the domestic freight fee. Several months ago, there was a famous domestic Airline bankrupt. I think somewhat it relates to each other.

My older son Chad took camera with himself. I choose 3 pictures he took to be put here. Wish the kids will all have a wonderful memories about their childhood in the family.

Dear Joanne, my beloved little daughter.

It has been 1 years since you came to this family on last July 4, just over night that the family moved to this new house after 4 years waiting for the construction. You are the first infant in this community. As the name of the community is Sunflower. I used to say that you are daughter of sunflower then. You grew up with this new house. You are the best gift for this and the family. Time flies and one year has passed so soon.

It is so impressive that every evening you cry when you hear my voice after I come home from office. Then, you always want me to hold you tight in arms, sit on my thigh and eat my dinner with me, even you are full then. It seems you like me more than any other family members. But you don't like to cry as your infant days. That's why so many people like it so much to hold you in their arm. You often stay calmly with them.

You are 1 year and 2 month old now. Several weeks ago, you just learned to stand up and to walk. Now you can walk quite well by yourself. You have got 10 teeth now, while 2 of them just come out. You want to try everything you want, to eat every thing we eat. You like to learn a lot of things. I saw you can pull away the screen door, stepping out carefully to the outside stair and sitting there alone to view the green side yard that spread in front of your eyes silently for a while . I think you are one who like to enjoy life.

A lot of our friends like you. Since the first time when you came to church with us last July, a lot of church friends came around you. So far, they still like to play with you, to hold you in arms. Our new neighbors in the Sunflower community also like you. Some of them don't have a little daughter like you, they hold you just as you are their daughter. Because of you, we got lots of gifts from friends, which including foods, clothes and tools for nursing. You bring a lot along yourself to this family, although you are too small to know any about it.

In this mortality life, you are entitled the same surname Hsieh. In this family, you will know you have dear Dad, dear Mom, 3 older brother and 1 older sister. I know they all love you so much! Besides, your grandfathers and grandmothers and other relatives love you, too. They will always love you just as your first year in this family. I wish you enjoy your life in the family. Through the family, I hope you can find the love, safe and caring that our Heavenly Father want to bless you.

Just as we stated often in some occasions in those days you came. --- "We are all children of God". Yes, truly it is! We all have a Heavenly Father who loves us so much and care us at any time. My life is so blessed when I know Him. My beloved daughter, I sincere pray for you that you will know Him some day and then you can bear your own testimony on Him and His great work. If you become one of His beloved daughters, I believe the whole members in the Hsieh Family will feel so honored and happy then. Wish you grow very well.

Don't find faults, neither don't criticize or try to look for any reasons! But just wipe it off as dust. Yes, shake off dust and go on forth for the mission. Then the spirit will be back again.

On Faith

What I wanna talk some more is about faith here. But what is faith by your opinion?

Actually it is hard to define it. Sometimes I still doubt on it. But little by little, I know faith is just as you know that every day the sun will arise. Or you know that you will have a happy life finally. So sure things with simple faith on it.

"There can be miracle when you believe." Yes, it is true that faith can also make things different.

But faith is not to have a perfect knowledge of things; therefore if you have faith, you hope for things which are not seen, which are true.

Building faith on God and on each other may bring life happiness.

About Taiwan, my opinion

....Well, just think about how to introduce you about my country. Yes, it is true that Taiwan manufactured a lot of stuff in the past. But now most of the factories have moved to China. China has become factory of the world in the recent years.

Historically, Taiwan was a Province of China, but it was ever governed by Holland, partially occupied by French at a very short time, and had been ruled by Japan for 50 years. When commuist arose and overwhelmed the whole China, the government of the Republic of China moved here. So it make Taiwan strait not so peace occasionally since then.

Missionaries came from England and Canada 100~150 years ago have brougt pepople here new faith. The greatest and most famous is Dr. Mackay from Canada. He spent almost his whole life since 1895 here especially in the northern Tawain to teach people gospel. That's why we can see many Mackay Memorial Hospitals in Taiwan. Nowadays there are still many Mormon's young missionaries from USA and other countries can be seen everywhere in big city or small country. They often use bicycle as their transportation tool. Those missionaries from overseas affected Taiwan a lot in every aspect, but the members of Christian are still not much. Most people believe in Chinese traditional Taoism and Buddhism. For decades, a famous Buddhistic organization "Tzu Chi Foundation" has widely and in-depth affected the Taiwan's society and other countries . Besides, relatively still quite fewer Muslim and Mormon here.

Taiwan is an independent country with its own government and army. China never acknowlegde it, that's why Taiwan cannot be accepted to join most of the international organizations, such as the United Nations. Government of China forced it as possible as they can in every occasion.

Since the new on-board of the current Taiwan's handsome President Ma Ying Jeou on 5/20, we have tried to establish a more friendly relationship with China. Maybe in several years you may see the two parts unified as one nation just as the East and West Germany in the past. Taiwan is currently a democratic country with mature economics, while China is still a state-power-centralized country but with very rapid economics growth. I think they both are seeking to become more equal to each other in every aspect.

Taiwan is a small island with high mountains, more than 100 peaks with their height's over 3000 meters. The scence in the mountain is so beautiful. When I was a student, I liked to back-packed climbing the mountains and took pictures there. Really nice memories. 謝存德我的阿公

今天我在教會中的演講題目是家庭的目的, 在教會的演講中第一次我談到我已過世的阿公謝存德先生, 我提到他是我所敬重的一個人, 雖然他是一位農夫, 且受教育不高, 只有在日據時代受過漢學教育而已, 但他有如企業家一般的上進心, 務農的他懂得悉心研究各種專業知識, 他訂閱了農業的專業月刊雜誌, 每天到有人那裡閱報, 熟知國內外大事, 廣泛交友, 有德性. 鄰里間的人民敬重他, 稱呼他為 "海口德啊", 因為他是從臨近海邊的小村 "路上厝" 搬來的. 我小時候, 也曾看過他當過鄰長. 在家中幫忙配給農會發下來的農藥.

我的媽媽嫁到謝家來, 婆媳與妯娌的問題偶有發生, 但就我所知, 他對阿公極為的敬重. 真正的看重他是家族中的長輩, 有權柄處理家中的大小事. 爸爸媽媽有關農業方面的投資, 在商量後, 為求慎重起見, 媽媽都會再徵詢爺爺的意見. 即便那時候已經分家了, 而爺爺的回覆, 有時如簡單的這麼一句話" 這怎麼不能做? ", 就常讓他們有吃了"定心丸"的感覺.

從我小的時後開始, 我已經比較少看到我爺爺非常辛苦的在工作, 他儼然已經成為家中的管理者, 事業的籌畫者. 我印象中的他, 早晨起來他會巡視農作, 早餐之後, 他會騎上他那"雙台"的大腳踏車上街為全家人買菜, 中午過後, 他會坐在他那舒適的躺椅, 在竹林遮蔭的微風吹拂下沉睡片响.

他對食物頗敢花費. 買好菜之後, 他就會到街上的好朋友家看報紙, 此習慣至少維持有十幾年之久, 當他到朋有家中看報時, 幾乎熟悉到不用打招呼, 把他們家當做公共閱報室似的. 我記得我2~3歲左右, 常被他載在架於腳踏車的前面橫樑上的小藤椅上上街, 他喜歡這麼做, 或許是因為我是他的長孫. 直到有一天, 從街上回來的路上, 他曾感傷的告訴幼年的我 --- 我們要"分食"(分家)了. 他的態度如此的特別, 讓我感受頗深, 我問他什麼是"分食", 小小年記的我, 雖然很多事都不懂, 但那奇異而感傷的氣氛令我印象鮮明, 直覺的就是有我無法了解的大事要發生了. 我猶記的那時的景象, 還有那時的腳踏車是騎在路上的哪一段. 民國76年我考上大學時, 第一個在報紙的榜單上發現我的名字的, 就是我的阿公, 還記那天他很高興的騎腳踏車回家的那一幕. 他還把人家的報紙給帶回來了呢! 現在那份報紙還被我收藏在某處. 上大學之前, 我在國高中階段唸了南部的私立學校, 每每月考後, 學校會將我那時好時壞的成績單寄回家, 阿公接到後都會直接拆開看, 有時會搖搖頭的拿給我的父母. 大學聯考幸運的考上排名還不算太差的清華大學核工系, 我猜想阿公在報紙上的前排看到我的名字, 應該會讓他樂得很久吧.

吃得好, 但是工作也不少, 我的阿公常在吃飯的時候發派工作, 他的幾個子女與媳婦則是他的員工. 聽說, 叔叔們常會將碗裡的飯菜盛滿, 然後端到另一邊去吃. 我媽媽的形容是, 嫁到謝家後, 日常的飲食好了很多, 但是辛苦的工作確也多了不少.

在我剛上大學後的秋天, 我到台中四叔家. 在那兒幫四叔自助餐的阿公接受我的邀約, 我們騎了四叔的摩托車, 載表弟和阿公前往附近的公園玩, 上大學似乎是個人的成年禮, 或者, 我是他子孫輩中第一個考上大學的人, 阿公這時對我的態度完全像個成人一樣的尊重. 不會騎機車的他, 坐在我的後座, 中間及前面載著表弟, 他對我表現出了完全的信任. 但這是我見到健康的阿公的最後一次, 也是印象中, 他唯一的一次讓我感受到當一個成人所受到的禮遇.

之後再見到他, 已是冬天躺在病床上的阿公了, 這時的他, 腦部已經開過幾次刀, 還包著繃帶, 用喉嚨呼吸, 不時要抽痰. 且昏迷不醒. 阿公在我上大學後的第一年冬天因病過世了. 民國77年農曆年前, 在彰化老家, 看到他灰白臉色的遺體從醫院的救護車上抬下來. 阿嬤燒了香, 有點不知所措的往頭後一丟.

算算至今, 阿公過世已經有20個年頭有餘了, 時間飛逝.

10年前的聖誕節, 我帶領自己的妻子, 改變信仰, 成為耶穌基督的門徒, 這個教會教導我們努力尋找個人的祖先家譜, 並在聖殿中完成對他們的救恩的教儀. 今年3月初, 我終於提交了阿公的資料, 並在後續幾個月中, 為阿公完成各項教儀, 雖然阿公在靈的世界仍保有他的特權是否接受這樣的福音, 但身為長孫的我, 能為阿公做這一點事情, 讓我感到無比的榮耀. 我知道, 家人的關係可以持續到永恆, 有一天, 我們都會再在復活的骨肉身體中見到我們親愛的家人.

P/S: 晚上媽媽打來電話, 說今天阿公剛好撿骨了. 我沒有意識到上次媽媽跟我說的即將撿骨的事, 因此未來得及回去參與此盛事, 然而湊巧的是, 加入教會這十年多來, 我第一次在聖餐聚會演講時提到阿公, 向他表示欽佩之意, 卻是在同一天. 還有稍早之前為他所行的聖殿事工, 僅能以此表彰對他的感懷之情.

A letter for my children

My children,

Just hours ago, we obey the recent prophet's teaching to hold our weekly family home evening. It's a wonderful time for us to join together. I enjoy it very much. Now you all fell asleep. I decide to leave some record about tonight here. I believe some day when your English is good enough, you will find your Dad records something for you in this blog area. I hope it can always remind you the wonderful family time we ever had together.

Tonight our theme is to learn to sing a song in the Children's Songbook "I Fell My Savior's love". This is a song we listened from music CD for hundreds of times. But it seems the first time we sing together in our family.

Differing from the past, I invite your Mom to sing it in solo for us. She sing it with full of her heart and it touches me. So I decide it as our opening hymn. I choose myself to be the opening prayer. Only I kneel down before prayer. Maybe it let us feel a little bit different. Just as your Mom's singing, it may also bring our family home evening a better atmosphere.

I am so happy that we can sing the song together, and then I can sing it solo for all of you. Unlike before, I choose to end up our family home evening soon after my solo and make it as short as possible, as I hope we every one can be taught by holy spirit. But not only by your Dad or Mom personally. As I said before Diana gave her closing prayer, I hope you can learn what the song teaches you. To feeling and to understand. May it brings your earthly life blessings.

綺芳見證 2005-11-29

岱娜出生一直到三個月大，半夜還常常醒來哭鬧，而且母奶餵食也不順利。記得有一天半夜她哭鬧不休直至清晨，我受不了還拿了一台錄音機將她的哭聲錄了下來。當岱娜三個多月大時，因我娘家父親意外腦部開刀，所以我就帶著謹鴻和岱娜回娘家幫忙。住在娘家的四十天裡，岱娜都不曾哭鬧。晚上十一點多她吃完母奶，我倒頭便睡，第二天醒來，她總在身旁睜著眼睛吸著拇指。白天岱娜吃完母奶便安靜躺在床上，不再吵鬧煩人，彷彿知道家中發生了一些事。
無價珍珠3:7其中提到 ” … 一切事物在以前都已被創造，… 他們都是屬靈地被創造… “，每個小孩出生後都有他獨特的個性，岱娜小小年紀敏銳的感受，讓我知道我們在天上時靈性狀態已發展得很完全，小孩子靈性的程度其實不亞於大人。馬太福音18:3 耶穌說: “ 我實在告訴你們，你們若不回轉，變成小孩子的樣式，斷不得進天國。“ 我知道我能成為四個小孩的母親，是天父要給我祝福，當小孩子成為我的考驗時，其實就是我應當悔改的時候。我感謝在教會中有福音的教導，完全的真理，讓我們在今生經歷種種試驗時仍有定錨與準則。我見證耶穌基督後期聖徒教會是神在地面上唯一真實而存在的教會，斯密約瑟是神所揀選的先知，耶穌基督是我們的救主。奉耶穌基督的名，阿們。

去聖殿十二月八日星期六天氣陰

我今天早上被弟弟叫起來，我那時以為才五點多而已，可是呢，我一看手錶發現竟然已經六點二十多分了，我馬上起床、褶被子、刷牙、洗臉趕快下去，我下去後，就看到媽媽在吃麵包，我也敢快去吃，然後我也問媽媽爸爸去哪裡了，媽媽說：「去倒垃圾」，吃完後我就在沙發上等，可是等到快七點了，爸爸都還沒回來，都快遲到了，我們本來預計六點半出門，七點半到台北聖殿，然後做八點的教儀，可是已經快七點了，我就問媽媽怎麼辦？媽媽說：「今天不去做八點的教儀，要八點出門」，然後我們就等到爸爸回來，就出門了，過了四、五十多分鐘我們就到聖殿了，我們要在聖殿旁的教會等媽媽，因為媽媽一個人去十點半的婚禮，結婚的人是我們阿嬤家隔壁的阿姨，在聖殿時弟弟在寫功課，我就和教會裡的弟弟玩球，玩到十一點多弟弟的作業都寫完一項了，媽媽都還沒出來，弟弟就在說他肚子餓，所以我們就在球場玩，等了不知道多久了媽媽就出來了，我們就趕快跟媽媽說肚子餓了，媽媽把妹妹的推車拿出來，準備出去吃午餐，我和弟弟心想要去同心小館吃，可是媽媽說：「要去快炒店吃」，爸爸說比較便宜，所以只能去爸爸、媽媽說的地方吃了，不過吃了之後，也覺得很不錯吃，吃完後剩下三十多分鐘就要進聖殿了，我和弟弟跟爸爸說：「要去萊爾富看看」，爸爸讓我們去，去了之後不久爸爸也來了，爸爸說：「要進聖殿了」，所以只好先進聖殿，等一下再來看有甚麼好玩的玩具，到時間後我們就進聖殿，那邊的服務人員幫謝之瑜換衣服，換好衣服的謝之瑜好可愛喲！我們就跟著服務人員去找媽媽，哇！我和弟弟看到那邊的燈，都讚不絕口，說：「很漂亮」，然後走呀走，就看到媽媽穿著聖殿的服裝做在椅子上，爸爸也一樣，準備和謝之瑜做印證，我們就坐在爸爸、媽媽邊等，過了三分多鐘後，本來要開始了，可是又少了見證人，所以聖殿的服務人員就出去找，又再等了一下，終於開始了，爸爸、媽媽跪下來，謝之瑜給有一個人抱，然後三個人的手碰在一起，聖殿人員就開始禱告，一下就結束了，我們在再看看漂亮的電燈，然後又去換回謝之瑜的衣服，我們就在旁邊畫畫之後謝之瑜衣服換好後，我們全家就出聖殿了，也在外面和大家一起合照，合照結束後，我和弟弟再去萊爾富選玩具，選了好久，弟弟就先買一個溜溜球，然後爸爸帶著謝岱娜和謝仲為，也來萊爾富了，爸爸幫謝岱娜買一個女生的妝扮的玩具，謝仲為是買棒棒糖，那時我也決定要買另一種溜溜球，買完後爸爸就說要回家了，我們就趕快準備，我們就去喝開水、上廁所，之後我們就上車了，對聖殿和教會說再見了，我們就坐車回家了，真是一趟好玩的行程！

孩子, Chad及Jeff, 今早爸爸做了一個決定, 希望你們可以為自己承擔起部份責任, 所以我要求你們從今天開始可以自己準備好出門上學, 自己要規畫好時間, 不要太晚起床, 起床後要主動梳洗穿衣, 折棉被, 讀經文, 及吃飯, 還要掌握自己走路到學校的時間, 不要讓自己遲到了. 在爸爸這一代或爺爺的那一代, 大家都是自己走路上學的, 而且還不管是否括風或下雨.「吃得苦中苦」, 過得了這種生活, 對你們的未來是有好處的.

我們每個人都得學習虔敬及認真的過生活, 這是神所喜悅的方式, 當我們的生活態度變得傲慢, 懶散或褻瀆時, 我們的生活自然會變得辛苦些. 我們會發現生活中的每一項小事務都在與我們作對, 我們不會得到聖靈的提醒或幫助. 所以當我們的生活態度變得不敬, 不莊重時, 我們肩上的負荷就會加重.

你們要懂得時時刻刻給你週邊的人提供服務, 如此, 你才配得別人對你的愛和服務, 不是嗎? 我們每個人包括爸爸, 都沒有權利去要求別人要免費的來愛我們, 或對我們提供服務吧 ! 而且, 當我們得到他人一點點的服務或幫忙後, 我們需要滿懷感激的心情, 即便不開口向對方說謝謝, 我們也得在我們的禱告中真心誠意的感謝神. 我們的生活也應該很謙卑.

你們小時候喜歡看的迪士尼卡通灰姑娘, 就有很好的隱喻, 灰姑娘很勤勞, 優美, 順從但又有正義感. 她的生活得到許多動物的幫忙, 最後, 仙女都來幫他的忙, 讓他的生活得到了莫大的祝福.

爸爸很喜歡的一句話, 從麥基奧大衛會長教導中看到的, 就是這篇文章的題目, "WHAT-E'ER THOU ART, ACT WELL THY PART." , 這句話, 爸爸視為座右銘, 哪天你們懂得英文了. 希望你能應用, 並拿它來提醒爸爸.

你們出門上學後, 我翻開這個星期日要幫教會男女青年上的主日學課程, 看到了我們的先知, 也是我們教會的前任總會會長戈登興格萊會長的一段話, 我想以它來做為結束, 並與我的每一個孩子共同勉勵, 孩子, 爸爸愛你們. 爸爸誠願你們可以成長得美好又健壯.

第十五任總會會長戈登興格萊會長說 :「我們每個人在這偉大的事工中都有份. 我們是來協助天父的事工, 促成祂的榮耀, 即「促成人的不死和永生」(摩西書1:39)的. 你們在自己範圍內的責任, 與我在我範圍內的責任同樣重大, 這教會的每項召喚都不是微小或不重要的. 我們每個人履行自己的責任時, 就會影響到他人的生活. 」(「這是夫子的事工」, 1995年7月, 聖徒之聲 75-76頁)

為了糾正家中小兒子經常把"幹嘛"兩個字掛在嘴邊, 變成口頭禪, 有一段時間, 我認真的制止, 他也聽進去了...

隔不久, 在飯桌前吃飯講話的時候, 等到我講話稍歇, 小兒子睜大眼睛看著我, 用很認真的神情說: 爸爸, 我剛才聽到你有說--"幹嘛"....

Yesterday (2008/5/20) we have had a new President. It’s the President of Taiwan. My hope to the new president is not to depend on China economically too much. Our new President is handsome and has lot of female fans. He was born in Hong Kong but elected as a President here. After 921earthquake in the year of 1999, the politics change a lot in Taiwan. Followed in 2000 the former 50 years-long ruling party was firstly changed. Yesterday it was changed back again.

Yesterday was also a holiday in Indonesia. It’s Waisak, a traditional Buddhist day. Famous Buddha landmark as Borobudur must be crowded then. Although most people there are Moslem, the country still celebrates the Buddhist holiday. There are 5 religions accepted in Indonesia, Islam, Catholic, Christianity, Buddha and Hindu. Each has its own holiday to celebrate their day. When a religion celebrating its day, other religions will respect and enjoy it as a holiday. Those are Waisak for Buddhist, Nyepi for Hindu, Idul fitr/ lebaran for Muslim, and Christmas for Christian, of course. It is similar to Malaysia. As I know, Malaysia has a lot of holidays due to the 3 main people's different background. But it is unlike Taiwan. Although there are a lot of Christian including Mormons, Christmas is not an official holiday still.

In Taiwan, we need to work and go to school as usual on 12/25. There is no official holiday for certain religion except the Chinese traditional days. For example, the famous Chinese New Year vacation and the tomb sweep festival on 4/4. Now we don't even take a break on mid-autumn festival since Saturday has become a holiday several years ago. So we have fewer holidays since Saturday become a full-day holiday. Only First day of the year (1/1), Peace Day (2/28), Tomb swept festival (4/4), Labor's Day (5/1) and National Day (10/10) left. That's all.

How is tomb sweep? Well, it is truly a traditional one. Chinese used to go to sweep the tomb of their ancestor or dead relatives to remember them one time a year. On the day, all relatives will come together to the tomb of their common ancestors or relatives, they work together to clean the tomb which is full of weeds, and then show their respect to them and apply something as sacrifices to them. Looks like to worship them. It is a distinct opportunity for relatives to gather together. After that, they may go back to one relative’s home nearby, there they may talk to each other and eat something. It is such a special day other for the Chinese. Besides, it is very easy to meet traffic jam everywhere.

We didn't go back to hometown to sweep tomb this year. That’s because we have other activity in church. Besides, we don’t want to meet traffic jam for long time since we have a one-year-old baby in car. I choose another special way to remember my dead grandfather in church’s Taipei temple. It is church's way to submit pedigree to the temple for eternity purpose. It is rather than a traditional way to constantly remember where we are from. Mormon Church emphasizes on ancestors so much by searching names of a generation up to another generation.

Today (2008/5/21) is also a special day. At about 8 o’clock in the morning, our little daughter Joanne firstly walked independently. She totally walked 5 steps by herself to her Mom. That's great! But the bad is that I didn’t record it through a digi-cam in time, as I was washing dishes in kitchen then, when Diana and Andrew screamed at it.

救贖的使命

前天的早上與承祐及謹鴻出門上學前, 在車上, 我與他們分享及教導了以下的這段經文:

約翰福音3:16~18
16 神愛世人, 甚至將他的獨生子賜給他們, 叫一切信他的, 不至滅亡, 反得永生.
17 因為神差他的兒子降世, 不是要定世人的罪, 乃是要叫世人因他得救.
18 信他的人, 不被定罪, 不信的人, 罪已經定了, 因為他不信神獨生子的名.

這是一段耶穌和尼哥底母談重生時, 耶穌的片段教導. 字字句句強而有力, 深入人心.

耶穌說明了祂來到世上的使命, 是要來幫助世人, 使他們脫離罪的綑縛, 讓他們得到重生. 然而世人首要付出的, 是對祂獨生子的名的信心. 沒有這信心, 人無法靠到神子所賜贖罪的力量得到快樂, 所以說, 那不信的人, 罪已經定了.

耶穌來到塵世, 讓許多人深刻體悟到自己過去的罪過, 並深切的在罪惡感之中, 短暫的罪惡的感覺也許不能免, 但這不是耶穌教導的目的. 祂的目的不是要用罪惡感來綑縛世人, 相反的, 祂乃是要救世人脫離. 並得到永生的快樂!

這段晨光中短暫的經文教導, 至少讓我自己感受到聖靈所帶給我的平和的感覺. 回到家中後, 我再度打開聖經, 給太太和較小的孩子這段教導.

我喜歡基督的話語, 每每當我心情低落, 為俗世事務羈絆時, 這充滿靈性光芒的話語, 每每啟發了我的靈魂. 我的悟性, 讓我重新再感受到神對我的愛.

我們的外貌

如果我們身為基督門徒的人, 在行為舉止還有外貌上, 沒有什麼差異, 我們能有什麼能力勸人歸信呢?

阿爾瑪書5:14
"現在看啊, 教會中的弟兄們, 我問你們, 你們在屬靈方面是否已從神而生? 你們在容貌上是否蒙得了祂的形像, 你們的心是否體驗過這種巨大的改變? "

身為教友, 在我們的同學與同事之中, 我們可以有哪些美好的行為與榜樣呢?

1.煙, 酒, 咖啡, 茶及有害的藥物, 在任何的情況下, 我們不會去使用它. 在許多的場合會常常遇到這類的邀請, 商場上業務的應對尤其是如此, 但許多台灣的教友們已經用他們的身體力行, 證明即便在這種場合上, 他們可以辦得到. 教會中許多的領袖, 他們即便不接觸煙和酒, 他們的事業一樣有非常傑出的表現.

2.現代社會在世俗物質需求的熏淘下, 普遍對婚姻生活存在畏懼, 充滿著不確定性. 要求完美的對像但卻又缺乏對彼此忠誠的信心. 也不認為婚姻生活會讓他們的生活更美好. 相反的, 卻要為此, 結束自己自由自在也似乎不缺乏一切的單身生活. 然而, 婚姻確實是神安排給人們的生活方式. 透過一男一女組合而成的家庭生活, 神要祂的救恩計畫被實現, 並要祂靈體的子女得到塵世生命的學習與快樂. 教友們在這一點上, 充份瞭解神在我們身上的期望, 我們也瞭解自己的使命. 對於婚姻與家庭, 身為教友的我們可以更加的依靠對神的信心, 來渴望婚姻, 建立家庭, 並彼此扶持以通過家庭生活中的所有考驗. 美好的婚姻與快樂的家庭生活, 應該是積極教友身上的一項醒目的標誌.

A church member sent me the following guideline to compose and organize personal history. That's great !

我的故事

1. 我出生時的房子。

2. 我出生時的環境、狀況。

3. 父母、兄弟、姊妹，談談有關他們的事。

4. 嬰兒時期的健康狀況：例如疾病、跌蛟、意外。

5. 我玩的遊戲、我的玩伴、娛樂、跟兒童在一起時所發生的特殊事件。

6. 家中的宗教信仰、禱告等等。

7. 家中的經濟情況，缺乏金錢與食物時的情況。

8. 學校的老師、學校以及同學（描述你的學校生活及經驗）。

9. 我在家中作家務及勞動的情形。

10. 教會、主日學、兒童會、協助會、福音進修班。

11. 我歸信耶穌基督福音的情形，感受最深刻的事，我如何獲得自己的見證。

12. 我年輕時候的朋友，我特別的朋友以及他們美好的行為。

13. 娛樂，為何我很喜歡運動，我所從事的運動。

31. 你的家庭是否曾經歷過一些重大事件，或感人而值得一述的事件。

32. 蒐集、提供事實並加以說明。每件值得稱頌的家庭歷史都應據實來寫；重要事件的日期，生活的經驗、人名、地點、想法以及抱負。

33. 簡要而直接地述說你的故事，事實本身可能很動人，然而應以生動、感人的方式來表達，並富地方色彩。

34. 適當的插圖、照片或紀錄。記住，每一張好的照片都要找出來珍藏。沒有任何文字能取代照片，即使是一張破破爛爛的照片。

大體上的一些建議

1. 整本書的記載要平均，不要某部分的份量特別重，以致忽略了另外的部分。

2. 將你的檔案作某種分類，你或許想在「我的故事」標題下再細分類。

3. 可藉由問問自己以下問題來將或許不重要的內容刪掉：「10年或20年後，這對我而言依舊有意義嗎？」記住，這並不是本集錦簿。

4. 問問自己：「我的子女或孫子女會知道真正的我是什麼樣的人嗎？」

5. 空出平常的時間，策畫及安排資料來選寫你的歷史。

6. 不要倉促地或一下子寫太多你的人生中某個階段的歷史。慢慢經營，在你人生中一點一滴地寫下你的歷史。

7. 花時間把所有的資料以最吸引人、最令人滿意的方式來呈現，不管是用文字、插圖、或一般的編排方式。都要有內涵。

虔敬地著手，辛勤地搜尋，小心翼翼地保持記錄；你將會「找到智慧和知識的大寶藏，甚至於隱密的寶藏。」　「真理的寶藏」

編撰個人歷史的建議

1.開始為自己編撰個人歷史。你可能無法在會議前完成這份歷史，但是你可以收集資料、加以組織、並開始記載你的個人歷史。（如果有錄音機，這對記筆記，以及收集從別人那裡來的資訊很有幫助）

2.討論個人歷史對一位父親所蘊藏的價值，當他透過回顧自己的傳承、應許、祝福、與家人分享這些經驗來激勵家人時，即是在運用它來鞏固自已。

3.如何開始：

收集所有你喜歡的資料（文件、證書、照片，剪報．．．．．．等等），將它們放在臨時的檔案裡、盒子裡，或大型的信封裡。至少每個月收集一次，不要嘗試在比這還少的時間內完成，要不然你會以為自己已經完成了，而實際上卻還沒做到。

4.可收集的有：

a.特殊事件、人物及地點的照片，例如（現在和過去）所居住的地方，執行洗禮和其他教儀的地方，接受恩道門及印證的聖殿。

b.出生證書、洗禮和證實證書、教儀證書。

Yesterday I talked with a friend about my story and it happened to be the birthday of my older son Chad that I recognized it later arrived home. The story still did not come to an end. I wish to start it from the beginning and continue it here rather than other places. Hope it was recorded well in this blogspot so that some day my offsprings can read it.

In 1997, the year when I become a father in April. It is such a special experience for life. My son Chad is the first great-grandchild of one of our grand mother. The grand mother was sick for long time and seldom go outside of her house except hospital. She came to us for her great grandchild with expensive gift and her daughters. But she lost it. She came in the afternoon but I took Chad to my home town in the morning. Soon she died in July. She got no chance to meet her first great grandchild. The experience of birth and death came to our life during the short period. But it is truly part of life. The concept from traditional teaching about life cannot satisfy us, for we eager to know more.

Well, I will continue my story here.

Yes, it is truly part of life, although it is not the perfect case for our life and we don't like things happened like the way. But later I knew, it may be part of God's plan.

My wife and I were so confused to follow a lot of Chinese traditional rules in the funeral. We both were young then and well-educated with a scientitic thinking. But the rule for a traditional funeral seems to be so old, although we admit some of the occasion can comfort the living ones and bring them peace, but indeed most of them seem to be so ridiculous and we don't know where it from and what it mean. However, we need to follow it in the funeral anyway.

We talked a lot about it and hence then traditional and the belief, since then until we went back to HsinChu City on the bus. We were not happy. We would like to know more about the life. And how should we do so that our life and society may be improved and belessed.

Just after we got off the Bus at the downtown of HsinChu Ciy, there we encountered 2 young foreigners in white shirt. They stand on the pavement with deep adjuration in their eyes. They even raised their hands to try to make the massive pedestrians coming into notice. However, the busy pedestrians seems just to pass by hastily on their way.

I saw one of them with a book in his hand and I am so curious about what they will teach. I stoped and talk to him. Later I knew the name of the man is Chad Kartchner. I asked him what is the book in his hand. He replied it is " Book of Mormon", another book on Jesus Christ. I asked him who write the book. He said it is from a lot of "prophet " in ancient American continent. How strange a word that we only can hear from some old story! However, I gave myself a chance to them cause that we have a lot of questions in our mind then. He continued to tell me the book is write during 1000 years. He showed me the year that maked on the edge of every page of the book. I restrain my questions on it but I tell me I would like to know more about it. But, instead, he told me that if I am interested in a free English dialogue class, I may go to the chapel to attend. He gave me his telephone number and write it on a leaflet.

After reading the leadlet carefully, I gave a call to Chad and told him I would like to listen to his course on the message.

We would like our new born child to have a same name with Chad Kartchner. So we call him Chad in English. Chad bring a wonderful meaning to the family.

底下轉寄的這信, 是住在美國猶他州普柔孚的我們家庭的福音傳教士寄來的, 他用英文寫著祝賀你生日快樂, 他是藍長老, 現在稱為藍弟兄, 本名叫藍嘉德, 約1996~1998年時, 他來到台灣傳教兩年, 剛好在你出生的那一年的8月份, 你的媽媽和我就認識了他, 之後就開始了我們4個月的福音學習歷程, 是透過他的努力和對我們家庭的愛心, 爸爸和媽媽才認識神, 並感受到神無時無刻在愛著我們每一個人.

2000年的時候, 當時你只滿3歲, 你曾經和爸媽一同拜訪過他的家, 見到藍弟兄的父母, 妹妹和弟弟. 藍弟兄有個小妹那時對你很好, 她一直帶著你玩, 雖然你們語言上無法溝通.

好快啊, 都11歲了. 很高興昨天我們可以一起去買蛋糕, 並和你的弟弟妹妹共同渡過一個愉快的夜晚.

我的妻子Binne Huang (NCTU NE91)是一個優秀的現代女性，我愛她並且我以她為榮。

他是我清大一年級時就認識的同班同學。

89年大陸民運。帶動台灣3月學運熱潮，清華大學平靜的校園發生了一連串平常不易見到的校園風波，環保社、兩性研究社都有她的蹤跡。

她的優秀，不僅是她是北一女中畢業的，核工系的工程數學竟從一修到四，且還曾得到工程數學學期成績滿分100分的佳績。這對我來講是難以想像的。

她在核工系取得優秀的成績畢業，並且獲得直升核工研究所的資格，但是她放棄了。因為這時的她可能因為初涉環保議題的關係，開始了他的反核能的想法，為此，核工系的老師還曾找過他談過。

清大的校園很幽美，我在這美麗的校園中，當然也有過對愛情美麗的憧憬，然而，可能個性不夠成熟的關係，或是繁重的功課對我造成影響，幾次的浪漫憧憬才剛萌芽不久，便行枯萎。我很羨慕那些在校園中成雙入對的情侶檔，他們的走在一起的身影是如此的浪漫。

第一個孩子在1997年出生。之後，我們遇到兩位外國來台的傳教士，我們接受了他們的福音課程。4個月之後，我們一同受洗加入了教會，在這個教會中，我們接受了更完整有關家庭及婚姻的教導，讓我們知道可以如何組織更幸福美滿的家庭生活，我們都很慶幸可以認識這美好的福音。尤其是在我們初組織家庭，還算年輕的時候。

2007年的校慶，首次舉辦了校友回校參與的還校路跑的活動，他報名參加了。是報名的3個女校友中的一個，因此，她得到了第三名「佳績」，還蒙現任陳文村校長的頒獎。

頒獎時，校長問了她現在那個機關高就，她回說：「我目前在當一位家庭主婦，照顧4個孩子。」

我家裡有很多人，有爸爸、媽媽、哥哥、我和妹妹，還有愛哭的弟弟，和最小最可愛的妹妹。我覺得在家裡很快樂。
我的爸爸很喜歡看VCD；他的個性很善良；他會帶我出去玩。爸爸的工作很忙都很晚回家。
我的媽媽沒有工作，因為太多小孩了，所以每天都在家做家事。媽媽很會煮菜，她煮的菜很好吃喔！媽媽的個性溫和，她喜歡運動和吃水果。
我哥哥很會畫畫，國語和體育也很棒。哥哥個性善良，可是有時也會生氣，有時也會不理我。哥哥最喜歡玩電腦和看小說。
我弟弟很會玩，喜歡幫人家。他很可愛，但是有時很愛哭；他生氣的時候很兇喔！弟弟和爸爸一樣愛吃東西。
我的妹妹很可愛，有時很兇，很可怕喔！妹妹很喜歡玩遊戲、愛看故事書，真討人喜歡。
我在家裡很快樂，因為有很大的地方可以跳繩。我希望有個很快樂的家庭，可是爸爸每次都很晚回家，真希望他每天能早點下班，回家陪我們。

Spring Festival couplets

To paste the Spring Festival couplets onto the doors and windows before the lunar new year may have become a tradition for Chinese for thousands of years. But how did it come this tradition? Anyone who knows its origination, please tell me.
Here I found 2 sources from interent. Looks the same.

In summary, both above two said the Spring Festival couplets came from 「桃符」 (tao fu, a kind of symbol), wich can avoid all the evil and wicked.
The Lunar New Year often comes on the end of January or beginning of Feburary. In Chinese 過年(guo nian) means to pass(過guo) the year(年nian). 過新年 means pass(過guo) the new(新xin) year(年nian).
What is the further meaning for 年? We have taught since our childhood and student days that it means a strange and terrible monster named 年獸(nian shou), which will come out to eat people at the lunar new year eve. To avoid being eaten by it, the family need to gather and dinner together. They will eat 年菜(nian cai, dishes of foods) and 年糕(nian gao, Chinese pastry) together. They will not sleep or keep the light on the whole night to pass the year or the monster (過年, guo nian) during the New Year Eve. Besides, people know the year monster is afriad of red color, noise and firelight. Finally it leads people a traditional nowadays to paste spring festival red couplets, to hang the red lantern, to wear red clothes, to give red envelope with money to children and elders, to let off firecrackers and to burn firewood in the yard for the lunar new year.

Since the people pass the year monster, they will "congratulate " (恭喜, gong xi) to each other when they get up in the morning for the reason that they pass it safely. Since the people is safe in the new year, they wish to be more prosperous in the future. That is why they congratulate and "wish prosperous" to each other and saying 恭喜發財(Gong Xi Fa Cai). Of course, you can also say 恭喜發大財(Gong Xi Fa Da Cai). 發財 means to have a lot of money and 大 means big and much more. This tradition seems let foreigners think of that Chinese is a people who especially loves money so much. Do you also think so? :-)

16 And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you.

17 And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever.

18 ¶ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

19 Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land.

20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

21 ¶ Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover.

22 And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning.
